From Beirut to Rome, London and Dubai
Originally from Beirut, Lebanon, Hani Baayoun has always been a cosmopolitan soul, drawn to art, culture and the power of visual storytelling. His creative journey began in Rome in the 1980s, where he studied illustration and communication arts. Although he had always loved jewellery, he never imagined that one day he would become a jewellery designer.

After returning to London, Hani continued his studies in animation art. In the late 1990s, his interest in moving images and visual communication deepened, inspiring him to explore commercial and promotional film direction. He also went on to teach communication arts at university level, developing a profound understanding of how images, symbols and narratives can communicate meaning.
These experiences would eventually become the foundation of his distinctive approach to jewellery design.
It was only around eight years ago that Hani embarked on his jewellery business, beginning to work with prestigious brands in Dubai. What started as a long-standing passion gradually evolved into a highly personal creative practice, one in which every ring begins with an idea and develops into a miniature world of its own.
When a Ring Becomes a Story
Hani’s creations are distinguished by their narrative quality. Rather than beginning with a gemstone or a particular shape, he starts with a story. It might be inspired by a historical figure, a cultural reference, a cherished memory or an extraordinary moment in time.
Once the narrative takes shape, he selects the materials and explores how each element can contribute to telling the story. The challenge lies in bringing all these details together in a harmonious design, transforming a complex idea into a single, wearable work of art.
The process is meticulous and often takes between three and five months for an individual ring, reflecting the thought, planning and craftsmanship required to bring each concept to life.
“I believe that being involved in communication for so many years has helped me create these jewels. Stories make all the difference. For me, storytelling is a remarkable source of inspiration that guides me in choosing my designs and materials to retell a story through a single ring,” Hani explains.
Scheherazade: A Journey into the East
Among Hani’s creations, his iconic Scheherazade ring stands out as a celebration of Eastern culture, history and storytelling. Inspired by the rich narrative traditions of the East, the ring invites its wearer on a journey into the past, where imagination, heritage and artistry intertwine.
A poem expressed through exceptional craftsmanship, Scheherazade reveals the defining characteristics of Hani’s design language: an ability to transform beloved stories into intricate compositions of precious materials, where every detail contributes to the larger narrative.
The ring earned Hani a first-place award at Roma Jewelry Week, bringing recognition to his distinctive approach and his ability to unite jewellery design with the art of storytelling.

His growing collection reflects an extraordinary commitment to detail. Having created seven rings over a period of more than three years, Hani approaches each piece as an individual masterpiece, allowing the time necessary for its concept and craftsmanship to develop fully.
Sophia Loren: An Entire Life Story in a Ring
For Roma Jewelry Week 2026, Hani created another exceptional piece: the Sophia Loren Ring, an intricate tribute to the legendary Italian actress and her remarkable life and achievements.
Presented as part of a competition inspired by Italian art and culture and held at the Corsie Sistine di Santo Spirito in Sassia, the ring reflects the exhibition’s theme through a remarkable combination of cinematic references, architectural symbolism and personal details.
“When I decided to create a ring celebrating Sophia’s life and achievements, I wanted to incorporate the architectural form of the Pantheon in Rome into its construction,” Hani explains.
The result is a jewel that unfolds like a film, revealing different chapters of Sophia Loren’s life through a series of carefully conceived details.

Inside the Sophia Loren Ring
The outer shape takes inspiration from a film-reel box. At the top sits a star ruby, accompanied by diamonds set along the grooves of the box. When the lid opens, a hand-painted miniature portrait of Sophia Loren is revealed, celebrating Italy’s celebrated artistic heritage.
Opening the sides of the ring reveals an extraordinary miniature cinematic world. At its centre lies the red carpet, recalling film premieres and Oscar nights, surrounded by a crown-inspired form that echoes the exhibition’s theme. A miniature cinema and projector appear within the ring, while screens at the front display images from some of Loren’s most famous films.
On the reverse side of the screens, a clapperboard bears the actress’s signature. In the background, the white camellia appears as a tribute to her favourite flower.
Other details make the ring deeply personal. Pine trees evoke Rome and the area where Loren grew up. The number two recalls the number she wore during her first beauty pageant, while the journey of her career is traced through references to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and her Academy Award. It also contains an engraving with Sophia Loren’s favourite quote:
“If you haven’t cried, your eyes cannot be beautiful.”
Even the overall silhouette carries meaning. Its architectural form recalls the Pantheon, an iconic Roman landmark beside which Sophia Loren famously posed for a photograph.
Every element has a purpose. Together, they transform the ring into a tribute to cinema, beauty, ambition and a life that has left an enduring mark on Italian and international culture.
The Sophia Loren Ring demonstrates Hani’s remarkable ability to translate a lifetime of achievements into a single jewel. It is not merely a portrait of an iconic actress, but a miniature biography in which architecture, cinema, personal memories and artistic craftsmanship come together.

The Art of Finding Harmony
Hani works with a variety of materials, including silver, gold and coloured gemstones. His passion for collecting gems plays an important role in his creative process, allowing him to select stones that complement the story, enhance the design and bring the overall composition into harmony.

For him, choosing a gemstone is never simply a question of colour or beauty. Each material must serve the narrative, contributing to the atmosphere and character of the finished piece.
This approach demands patience, imagination and a deep appreciation of craftsmanship. A ring may contain numerous individual elements, yet the finished composition must feel coherent, balanced and meaningful.
It is this combination of artistic vision and technical consideration that gives Hani’s creations their distinctive identity.
Seeing the End Before the Beginning
When asked about the principle that guides him in both his work and his life, Hani offers a thoughtful answer:
“I believe that in life, you have to see the end before the beginning!”
It is a philosophy he developed during his studies in film production, where understanding the final vision is essential to shaping every stage of the creative process.
The same principle guides his jewellery design. Before he begins working on a ring, he must be able to imagine the complete story: how it will unfold, which materials will express it best, and how each detail will contribute to the final result.
This clarity of vision allows him to approach even the most intricate designs with a sense of purpose. Every decision, from the choice of a gemstone to the placement of a miniature detail, becomes part of a larger creative intention.
Why Rings?
There is one final question that seems particularly appropriate for a designer who has dedicated himself to this extraordinary form of jewellery: why rings?
“Because I am a ring lover. A ring is a memory you always carry with you, accompanying you in every move you make,” he explains.

Perhaps this is the essence of his work. A ring is intimate by nature. It moves with its wearer, becomes part of everyday life and can hold a significance that goes far beyond its material value.
For Hani, this intimacy makes the ring the perfect medium for storytelling. It can preserve a memory, celebrate a person, honour a cultural legacy or commemorate a special moment. Its beauty lies not only in its materials or craftsmanship, but also in the meaning it carries.
Bespoke Jewellery: Your Story, His Creation
Today, Hani Baayoun is focusing increasingly on one-of-a-kind and bespoke jewellery, inviting clients to share their own ideas, stories and treasured memories.
His ambition is to create pieces that are deeply personal: jewels that celebrate meaningful occasions, honour loved ones or preserve moments that deserve to be remembered.
The process begins with a conversation. A memory, an emotion or a significant life event can become the starting point for an original design, developed through Hani’s distinctive combination of storytelling, imagination and craftsmanship.
In a world where jewellery is often defined by trends and commercial appeal, his work offers a more personal perspective. Each ring becomes a collaboration between the story that inspires it and the artist who gives it form.
From the cultural richness of Scheherazade to the cinematic tribute of the Sophia Loren Ring, Hani continues to explore the extraordinary possibilities of jewellery as a storytelling medium.
His creations remind us that the most precious jewels are not always those defined by the rarity of their stones or the brilliance of their gold. Sometimes, their greatest value lies in the stories they preserve.
And for Hani Baayoun, every story deserves a ring of its own.
